Washington, D.C., May 13, 2025

Global Justice, a U.S.-based human rights organization, celebrates President Donald J. Trump’s historic
announcement lifting all sanctions on Syria and restoring full diplomatic relations with Damascus.
Global Justice and the Syrian Emergency Task Force (SETF) led a U.S. delegation to Damascus. The delegation
met with the Syrian President for nearly four hours and discussed the importance of a Syria – U.S. partnership,
and we agreed to convey President al-Sharaa’s message to President Trump, emphasizing the golden
opportunity for a partnership based on mutual economic, political, and security interests as well as shared
values.
A New Dawn for Syria
The announcement signals the return of hope to a nation devastated by conflict. Families look forward to
reunification, refugees dream of returning home, and communities long to heal. Global Justice aƯirms this is
more than a policy shift—it is a symbol of justice, freedom, and a new chapter for Syria.
