HTS’s aggressive and militaristic advances increased following the assassination of Syrian media activist and outspoken Free Syria advocate Muhammad Abu Ghanoum and his pregnant wife on October 7th in al-Bab, located in northern Aleppo.

HTS is designated as a terrorist organization by the United States and Turkey and act as an authoritarian regime in the areas it controls. HTS, historically affiliated with al Qaeda and well-documented in their mass human rights violations, is currently vying for control of Syria’s northwest region which has a population of over 4.5 million Syrians; over half of which are internally displaced.

Syrians have been protesting and chanting against HTS’s entry into Azaz city for several days following the the terrorist group’s entry into Afrin city last week. Turkey has been an ally in the fight for justice and integrity for the Syrian people. Global Justice commends and thanks Turkey for its efforts and calls upon Turkey to work with the United States to put further pressure on HTS to withdraw from the region for the sake of the Syrian people.
